Last week we spent the afternoon with a good friend at Blue Hill Farm and oh my gosh, we had so much fun! For being a city girl, R seems really at home with the animals and was so sweet and gentile and brave with all of them (though she didn't really care much for the chickens - particularly when they were picking at our toes!)

The animals are all mostly contained but there were a few litters of piglets who were small enough to squeeze under the fences and were running all over the field. What an adventure! We spent the good part of an hour running around with them and trying to get them comfortable enough with us to come close. And, it worked!

The weather has been so unpredictable here this winter and we were hit with a beautiful, sunny day on Tuesday. R and I took advantage of it and went for a nice, long walk around the neighborhood. We met a small cat and bunny along the way, tucked into a neighbors gate as a giveaway. Of course, being the stingy, strict, and scared-of-bedbugs parent I am I immediately said no, we absolutely could not take them with us. At about the same time, a slightly drunk, smoking, shuffling guy came up and told R to go ahead, take them anyway, that's what they're there for. She, of course, took his advice and pulled the friends down. She could not have been happier about it and snuggled them the whole walk. I guess sometimes as a parent, you just have to listen to the drunk guy.

We have some very good friends visiting us from Seattle this week with their one-year-old son. R absolutely loves having a little buddy around. She chases him all around the apartment and is constantly asking about him when he's out of eye-sight. Actually, she keeps asking for "baby daddy", which for a while we thought referred to his dad, our friend, but we've since realized that this is just the name she's given to the little guy. Who knows why.
We spent yesterday afternoon roaming the cars at the New York City Transit Museum, an absolutely perfect spot for two rambunctious toddlers. The kids had a blast running through the cars, climbing on the seats and harassing the resident cat.

It's a rainy, cloudy, but very green afternoon here in NY.  It's like magic the way the dull skies and wet weather can make greens so bright and vibrant.

It's been a long time since I've seen Manhattan at night. These photos are giving me the fix I need. Found here, via here. What an amazing trove of images.

My mom, my sister and my sister's two kids are coming to visit next week (My mom gets in tomorrow!). Everyone is staying in our tiny apartment. It's going to be a serious adventure. I am really looking forward to it. We don't have much on the agenda, but I am looking forward to being a tourist in the city. It's always so fun when we have visitors in town and we can just let go and gawk at this beautiful place.
Do you have any exciting weekend plans?

One of the main reasons for us to go to ps1 this weekend was to see this installation by Surasi Kusolwong. It's a room filled about 3 feet deep with big piles of cotton thread waste, just waiting to be rolled around in. Little r loves picking at thread pulls, fuzz, hair, and anything else stringy, so she was in little baby heaven crawling through the piles. I would recommend that everyone go and see it, but I just noticed that it closes today. I'm bummed that we didn't discover it sooner. We would have gone every weekend.

This weekend. Long Island City, PS1, and a new camera app on my iPhone.
